AFT Series
Comet Fans AFT Fan Series for Marine Applications
AFT series fans are designed to ensure efficiency and reliability in onboard ventilation systems, including engine rooms, auxiliary spaces and accommodation areas. Speed and performance adjustment enables adaptation to the different operating conditions typical of marine applications.
MAP and AVP impellers ensure high efficiency and low noise levels, while the robust structure withstands the humid atmospheres and aggressive environments typical of the marine environment.
Available in numerous configurations and anti-corrosion materials, AFT fans are designed according to established criteria.
The versatility of the blades, from 3 to 12 per impeller, makes it possible to achieve the ideal solution for every marine application. They are suitable for high flow rates and medium-low pressures, with a range of diameters from 800mm to 5000mm.
Typical applications include ventilation of engine rooms and technical spaces, low-noise installations, large diameters where direct coupling between impeller and motor is not possible, environments with very humid air that is harmful to the electric motor, and situations where, due to regulatory or plant requirements, the motor must be positioned outside the airstream.
The three available configurations are AFTE (external motor), AFTS (vertical shaft, motor suspended below the casing) and AFTN (internal motor), allowing horizontal or vertical installations depending on the space and airflow paths typical of the ship’s layout.
Low-noise aerofoil-profile impellers feature variable pitch: adjustable while stationary (MAP) or while running (AVP). The materials (aluminium alloy, FRP, PP, PA) and balancing in accordance with ISO 1940/ISO 14694 ensure performance and vibration levels suitable for marine use.
The fabrications are all made of electro-welded steel sheet (ASME XI and/or ISO 3834-2), manufactured in sections for the larger diameters. Conical or elliptical inlet cones are available on request.
The standard finish is hot-dip galvanising, to ensure the best resistance in industrial environments (painting available on request).
Three-phase AC or DC motors are compliant with the EN/IEC 60034 family; versions for classified areas (ATEX/IECEx: EN 14986, IEC 60079-14) are available on request.
Testing and Performance Requirements:
- Aerodynamic tests to ISO 5801 / AMCA 210
- Vibration levels to ISO 14694, noise levels to ISO 13347;
Marine sector qualification options are available within the range.
- Engine room ventilation: supply/extraction for main and auxiliary engines and cooling systems.
- Auxiliary spaces: compressors, bow-thruster room, workshops and technical stores.
- Out-of-airstream technical spaces: installations requiring the motor to be located outside the airstream due to high humidity/saline atmosphere.
- Low-noise requirement spaces: accommodation decks and sensitive areas.
- Potentially classified spaces (on request): paint shop/paint locker, pump room; versions compliant with EN 14986 / IEC 60079-14 where required.
